How to use this calculator
- Pick the row that matches your question. The first row answers “what is X% of Y”, for example a 15% tip on a 40 euro bill.
- The second row tells you what percent one number is of another, for example 45 correct answers out of 60 questions.
- The third row shows the percentage change between two values, for example a price that went from 80 to 95. A negative result means a decrease.
- Results update as you type. You can use your local decimal format, for example 12.5 or 12,5.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I calculate a percentage of a number?
- Multiply the number by the percentage and divide by 100. For example, 20% of 150 is 150 × 20 ÷ 100 = 30. The first row of the calculator does exactly this.
- How do I work out what percent A is of B?
- Divide A by B and multiply by 100. For example, 30 out of 120 is 30 ÷ 120 × 100 = 25%. Use the second row for this.
- How is percentage change calculated?
- Subtract the old value from the new value, divide by the old value, and multiply by 100. Going from 80 to 100 is a 25% increase; going from 100 to 80 is a 20% decrease. Note that the two directions give different percentages because the starting value differs.
- What is the difference between percentage points and percent?
- If an interest rate rises from 2% to 3%, it rose by one percentage point, but by 50 percent relative to where it started. This calculator works with percent, the relative measure.
- Is my data sent anywhere?
- No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser; the numbers you type never leave your device.
