- Are public holidays deducted?
- No, and that is a deliberate limit rather than an oversight. Holidays differ by country, and in Germany they differ by federal state, so a calculator that guessed them would be wrong for most visitors. Count the holidays that fall inside your range and subtract them yourself; the calendar-day figure shown here makes that easy to check.
- Are both the first and last day counted?
- Yes. Monday to Friday of the same week gives 5, not 4. Contracts and leave forms almost always mean it this way. If your case counts only the days after the start date, subtract 1 from the result.
- Is a working day the same as a business day?
- In everyday English, yes: both mean Monday to Friday. Watch out in other languages. German law distinguishes Werktage, which include Saturday, from Arbeitstage, which do not, and a notice period written in Werktage runs differently from one written in Arbeitstage. This calculator counts Monday to Friday.
- Why does the result differ from my payroll system?
- Payroll and project tools usually subtract public holidays, and some use a company calendar with shutdown days. Compare the calendar-day figure first: if that matches and the working days do not, the difference is holidays, not arithmetic.
