How to use this calculator
- First row: enter the original price and the discount percent to get the final price and the amount you save. 80 with 25% off costs 60, saving 20.
- Second row: enter the original and the reduced price to see what percent the discount actually is; useful for checking whether a 'deal' is as big as advertised.
- You can type prices in your local decimal format, 19.99 or 19,99.
- For stacked discounts, apply them one after another: an extra 20% on top of 30% off is 44% off in total, not 50%.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I calculate a sale price?
- Multiply the price by (100 minus the discount) and divide by 100. 120 with 30% off: 120 × 70 ÷ 100 = 84.
- How do I work out the discount percent between two prices?
- Divide the reduced price by the original, subtract from 1, multiply by 100. From 80 down to 60: 1 - 60/80 = 25%.
- Do two discounts of 25% and 25% make 50%?
- No. The second discount applies to the already reduced price: 100 becomes 75, then 56.25, which is 43.75% off in total.
- Does the calculator handle taxes?
- No, it works on the prices you type. If your price is shown without tax, apply the discount first and add tax afterwards, as shops do.
